I talk to some people who write on the internet like I do, and I know some who write more like this, "i talk to sum people who write on the internet like i do," and in casual conversation I don't really care how you write as long as I can understand what you are saying. So anyone who I befriend who isn't perfect in writing to me do not apply in the rant that I am about to throw on you. They don't apply anyway because I have never argued with anyone I have befriended here, but anyway...

I hate it when people make basic mistakes when writing in the English language as they do one of the following...
1) Make fun of people
2) correct someone
3) criticize something/one

People, people, people for the love of all things holy or dear to you, if you are going to be a smart ass, if you are going to be an asshole, or if you are going to argue with someone...proof read the shit you type. If you think you are smarter than someone, then you have to prove it. That isn't done by just throwing facts or other criteria around.

It doesn't matter what you know if you write like a moron. I would say "like a child who is still learning basic English", but a child learning basic English isn't a moron because they have an excuse for making mistakes. They are still learning, after all. And I don't mean advanced errors in grammar, or commonly confused ones like the "who" vs "whom" mistakes or even incorrect punctuation (only for "I"s, though). However all spelling mistakes are frowned upon if I notice it. But I can get over all of that. It is the very basic mistakes that piss me off. I mean how can they not piss you off? Common knowledge gets thrown out the window by the people who need it the most.

Some browsers used on PCs (I can't speak for macs, I am a PC girl) even tell you if a word is spelled wrong!! (If yours doesn't then try Opera or Firefox. There isn't any reason not to try, they are fast browsers. Firefox has cool add-ons and Opera has the Oprah "O" as their logo. Nonetheless, as long as you have a decent virus protection they should work for you.) Even if you don't use those browsers, then there is still proof reading and looking up spelling/definition for the word you are unsure about. If you are trying to make a point or argue against someone it is worth it so that you don't look dim-witted or just plan wrong.

I know that sometimes if you are just texting on the phone or use a touch screen phone to internet surf, then that's okay because those buttons can get very annoying to use for some people, (like myself). I can understand if you don't feel like proof reading a casual conversation you are having, especially if you are talking with a buddy. Chances are, they won't care about minor typos, (or even major or purposely made ones). If you are just writing something fun, even if it makes the English language cry, it's okay. Proof reading isn't fun for all. That is why I don't get mad about fanfiction being riddled in bad grammar, typos and spelling mistakes. Its not like they are making money or doing anything serious with it.

But if you are going to take the time to insult/criticize someone then you should know what you are talking about and spell everything correctly. If you don't then in the process of acting like you are better, you are presenting yourself as a stupid individual. Although stupid people have a right to make fun of others, that doesn't change the fact that you are a moron and nothing you said will be taken seriously. In my eyes, whoever you are making fun of is BETTER than you for it, as well. Only a rocks-for-brains person thinks a rocks-for-brains insult is funny. Fact. I've seen it plenty of times. I already consider people who seriously make fun of people trashy in itself. If they are comedians then it is excused but if you are just being mean, I won't respect you. But if you are mean and are also a half-wit, that is even worse.

If you are in an argument the same rules apply. Being lazy as you use the English language (or any language, for that matter) in an argument is definitely not advised. It is a major blow for your argument because chances are, the person won't know who you are or what you look like. So in an internet exchange, the only proof of the kind of person you are, is what you have written down. If what you have written is pure crap, quality-wise, then the person you are arguing against now has leverage against you and can easily make you look like the fool. Only those who don't bother to write correctly themselves won't judge you, but they also most likely have thick skulls and will never change their mind no matter the evidence.

The insult-one's-appearance kind of arguments don't apply here because usually those are just insults, accusations, lies, repeat. The same criteria is even repeated, sometimes in the same sentence! However amusing to witness if you are bored, they are usually between teenagers whom for some reason write in the most horrid way possible. Anyway most of those types are not intelligent or insightful enough to insult anything other than hair styles or clothing choices. Yes, I don't spend 90 dollars on shoes, so I am the stupid one. Yea I have clothes that came out years ago because I can take care of my stuff and therefore don't need new ones. But I'm clearly in the wrong for that.

But if you want to win an argument against an intelligent individual, then you must write correctly, and come up with actual worthy comments for an argument.

Someone please explain to me why someone would spell the word "opponent" like this: "oppenant." That isn't even a typo! The "e" and "o" keys on a keyboard are not even next to each other!! How does that happen? Did you really think that it was spelled like that monstrosity?

Or how about this one: "Your Stupid." Are you saying that "stupid" (which is an adjective), belongs to "you?" No, you meant, "you're." But telling someone they are stupid but not even using the appropriate word is stupid in itself. Let me explain in detail why this typo/mistake in grammar vexes me so.

If I see a typo in a novel, then okay, it is a large amount of text for editor(s) to correct, so I can understand that you have missed it. I have to proof read my writings plenty of times, and when Ricky ( ) reads it there are still some mistakes I have overlooked, even if they aren't always basic. That's okay, too, because I didn't publish my story yet, nor is it in its final version.

But that "your stupid" comment is only TWO WORDS! What's your excuse? No time? If you had time to write two words, AND watch a video, you had time to write it correctly...Or to look at it again to make sure you don't sound like a complete dolt! How can anyone just get those confused? It isn't as equally confusing as the "who vs whom" dilemma. Each of the two, "your" and "you're" mean completely different things. If it does confuse you, and genuinely does, then you can simply look it up.

This is all important because if you are going to bother to voice your conflicting opinion, belief, or fact, then why sabotage those ideas by writing like English isn't your primary language? (Unless it isn't, and of course that makes you a little smarter than most people who only know English compared to your main language and English or more.) I normally don't advise people to be mean and make fun of people, but it is your right. However if you are going to be an asshole, don't make an even bigger shit of yourself as you already will.

If you are going to go out of your way to criticize, insult, or correct someone, then you need to bother to write English (or whatever language you use) well. What's the point in half-assing your views or advice and then compromising your intelligence? People will not believe you if it is written in butchered English, so if it isn't acknowledged than what is the point in even writing it?

People already rarely ever change their minds when reading something that is beautifully written. So what makes you think that shit in the form of poorly spelled words in poorly constructed sentences will do any better?

PS: I proof read this as I was writing (about 20 million times) and at least 3 or 4 times after I finished writing. But it is long and late, so I really do apologize if my rant turned essay has some mistakes. It at least doesn't have all the mistakes I see all the time on Facebook or YouTube...XD
